Theophilus Rice, Pwllheli : Will 1834.

In the name of God Amen.

I Theophilus Rice of Pwllheli in the County of Carnarvon, make this my last Will and Testament.

It is my Will that my body may be buried near to the spot or place where a brother was buried in the Churchyard of Llanbedrog.

I give and devise to my brother David Rice the sum of fifty pounds.

Also I give and devise to my sister Martha, wife of John Thomas Talsarn, the sum of one hundred pounds. It is my earnest request that she shall have the above for her private use, and that it shall be at her own disposal.

I also give to my Nephew Evan the son of Robert and Margaret Parry as a mark of my disapprobation of his conduct and that my other Nephews may remember it, the sum of one shilling only.

I also give to my friend Evan Evans of Abererch, late of Dolydd, Tanner my clothes, chest empty and the sum of five pounds. In money to furnish it, no matter about the colour of the suit.

I also give to my brother Thomas Rice of Meillionydd the silver ladle, spoons left to me by my late brother Samuel Rice, they are now in the possession of Mrs Rice Crown Inn, Pwllheli.

The residue or remainder I give and bequeath to my brother Thomas Rice, my sisters Ann Owen and Martha Thomas, and the children of my late sister Margaret Hughes of Trygarn, share and share alike. I mean that the residue be divided into four shares, the children of Margaret to have one share equally divided among them, Evan Parry is excluded; their names are Elizabeth, Mary, Samuel and Martha Parry and Jane Hughes, the daughter by the latter husband.

I believe I have an interest of sixth part of a sum of money in the Funds which is deposited there to pay to Mrs Rice, widow of my late brother of Bangor Thirty Pounds annually during her life, and at her death reverts back to his brothers and sisters, this sum it is also my Will shall be disposed of as directed with the residue or remainder.

All the property I have or that may hereafter fall to me I Will may be divided between the residuary legatees as above directed. I hereby make and appoint my friends and relations David Rice of Pwllheli, Thomas Rice of Meillionydd, John Thomas of Talsarn and John Griffith of Penybryn Edern, the survivors or survivor of them, Executors to this my last Will and Testament, written with my own hand and sealed with my seal this twenty ninth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine.

Signed sealed and declared by the Testator as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us.

May 28th 1831. Evan Evans to whom £5 and clothes chest were willed in the body of this Instrument having departed this life; I give Five Pounds to his Nephew Evan Hughes, my long and faithful steward, the clothes chest is disposed of.

On the first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four (1834) the above written Will was insinuated proved approved and in common form of Law decreed valid and Administration granted to David Rice, Thomas Rice, John Thomas and John Griffith, Joint Executors, they being first sworn in common form of Law and that the whole of the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to the sum of fifteen hundred pounds.
