James Henry Wade, Crown Hotel, Pwllheli, Innkeeper : Will 1852.

This is the last Will and Testament of James Henry Wade of the Crown Hotel Pwllheli in the County of Carnarvon, Innkeeper.

I give and bequeath all that Instrument or Policy of Insurance effected by me on my life with the Clerical Medical and General Insurance Society, and all moneys to be received under or by virtue thereof.

And also all my household furniture, plate, linen, china, glass, horses carriages stock in trade goods, chattels and effects which are now in about or belonging to my house and premises aforesaid (and which are now in mortgage to Mr Evan Williams of Pwllheli aforesaid Ironmonger to secure him from certain liabilities which he has entered into for me amounting now to the sum of five hundred pounds.) unto the said Evan Williams and George Northcroft of Bangor in the said County, Surveyor and Engineer upon trust that they should carry on the said business of Innkeeping or to discontinue the same at their discretion, but for the benefit of my dear wife Susannah and I hereby declare that it was my intention when I effected the said policy of Insurance on my life as aforesaid that all sums to be received by virtue thereof by my Representatives should be for the sole benefit of my dear daughter Anne Eliza and I hereby desire them the said Evan Williams and George Northcroft to carry out such my instruction provided there be sufficient assets after me without the said money to be received by virtue of the said policy to pay my debts.

And I give and bequeath to my said daughter Anne Eliza the oil painting of myself.

I give and bequeath to my son Henry my gold watch and chain and also my “Imperial Dictionary”.

And I hereby desire them the said Evan Williams and George Northcroft to assist my said son Henry in my ? of emigrating. And whereas I have advanced certain sums of money upon the leasehold house, No2 Seabright Street Hackney Road London the lease of which is now in my possession but of which I have had no assignment I direct them the said Evan Williams and George Northcroft to get an assignment of the said lease and either to sell the premises or not at their discretion the price of such sale if any to be upon the ? of this my Will or if not sold upon trust to hold the same for the benefit of my wife.

I request my wife to lay out the sum of five pounds in any manner she may think fit for the benefit of my servant Jane Williams for her faithful services.

I hereby give unto the said Evan Williams two silver table spoons and to the said George Northcroft my silver snuff box as a small token of my regard for them.

And I nominate and appoint them the said Evan Williams and George Northcroft Executors of this my last Will and Testament. Dated the seventeenth day of August 1852.

Signed by the said Testator James Henry Wade in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

On the twenty third day of October in the year of our Lord 1852 the above Will was insinuated proved approved and in common form of Law decreed valid and Administration granted to the above named Executors Evan Williams and George Northcroft, they being first sworn in common form of Law and that the whole of the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to £1000.

The deceased died on the first day of September 1852.

A true and perfect Inventory of all the several goods cattle and chattels of the late James Henry Wade of Pwllheli in the County of Carnarvon, Innkeeper, Diocese of Bangor taken and made “gratis” by me the under signed as witness my hand this 1st day of October 1852.
