Hugh Griffith, Bodwrdda, Aberdaron, Farmer : Will 1849.

I Hugh Griffith of Bodwrdda in the Parish of Aberdaron, Farmer, being in a sound state of mind, memory and understanding but calling to mind the frail tenure of this life, do this sixteenth day of September in the year of our Lord 1848, make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following.

I give and bequeath to these my five children, viz, Anne, Hannah, Hugh, Eliza and Esther forty pounds each, to be paid them by my Executrix at the following periods – Anne's share to be paid her within three years from the time of my death, and the other four shares to be paid up in course of five years from that event, or sooner, if their Mother thinks proper to do so.

All the remainder of what I may be possessed of at the time of my death I give and bequeath to my dear wife Jane Griffith, if she continues unmarried, to be disposed of at her death in any manner she pleases. But in case she marries, my Will is, that she should have only the one sixth part of what she may be possessed of at the time of marriage according to an inventory to be then made and that the remainder be divided equally between my five children aforementioned.

I do hereby make constitute and appoint my dear wife, Jane Griffith, sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testator, Hugh Griffith, as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us. John Evans Elizabeth Davies On the fourteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine /1849/ the aforesaid written Will was insinuated, proved, approved and in common form of Law decreed valid and Administration granted to the within named Jane Griffith, Widow, Sole Executrix, she being first sworn in common form of Law, and that the whole of the Goods, Chattels, Effects and Credits of the said deceased do nor amount to the sum of Four hundred pounds in value.
